The Industrial Internet of Things (IoT) has become a strategic enabler for enterprises. While plant floor and business sys-tems are continuing to meld, the opportunity to transform manufacturing operations by changing the deployment of technology is apparent. This new wave of Industrial IoT technology fueled by cloud services is allowing manufacturing and process plants to bet-ter manage plant assets, improve safety, maintain costs, and improve operational uptime. IoT enables the creation of new business and asset service models and liberates the information that has traditionally not been available to ex-perts outside the walls of the plant or factory. Operations and maintenance especially will benefit from a larger sup-port network of staff, experts, and OEMs. First mover organizations benefiting from IoT have realized that traditional plant architectures do not easily scale to sup-port the flow of information across company boundaries and even international borders, and common internet and wire-less technologies can provide the security and reliability for their business. These services are easily expandable across multiple plants and facilities. ARC will present the opening context and dynamics, followed by three 20-minute presentations from companies success-fully transforming their technology landscape. General Mills continuously refines SAP to catch duplicate payments then the AP team runs an internal review as a secondary pass. The company also relies on apexanalytix to complete a 90-day rolling statement audit and an annual duplicate check analysis to find anything that has fallen through the cracks. General Mills’ recoveries are well below the industry average because of good process controls. But a recovery audit still makes financial sense. The last review returned nearly half a million in duplicate recoveries and $1.75 million in statement recoveries, adding valuable working capital to the business and pinpointing problem areas. But (surprise!) politics felt terrible, and soon enough, Michael was off to New York where he was a stand-up comic by night and an advertising executive by day. It quickly became apparent where his talent did not lie. Michael Fanuele has been lucky to spend most of his career as a brand strategist working with some pretty awesome people at some pretty great places, including JWT, Havas, and Fallon, helping brands including Dos Equis, Arby’s, Cadillac, Charles Schwab, Cheerios, Unilever, and Volvo. He has in fact sold tea in China. For his work on these brand, Michael has won many Effies and a a record-breaking five Account Planning Group (APG) awards. Recently, Michael served as the Chief Creative Officer at General Mills, a role in which he tried to inspire a big food company to be a good food company. Some progress was made. His first book – Stop Making Sense: The Art of Inspiring Anybody – was published this past July and is already on its second printing. He’s also written for the Harvard Business Review. Michael has a glorious wife and three totally-awesome young sons. He watches a lot of youth soccer, plays far too little tennis, and really, genuinely loves They Might Be Giants. During the Soil Health Institute’s 5th Annual Meeting, Soil Health: The Foundation for Regenerative Agriculture, Mr. Jay Watson, Sourcing Engagement Manager of Global Sustainability at General Mills, defined regenerative agriculture as a holistic, principles-based approach to farming and ranching that seeks to strengthen ecosystems and community resilience. General Mills recognizes that companies are responsible for developing solutions to support sustainability, and it is committed to sustainably sourcing 100% of its 10 primary ingredients, Mr. Watson explains. They also were one of the first companies to set a science-based target for scope 3 emissions reductions and committed in 2019 to advancing regenerative agriculture on 1 million acres of farmland by 2030. This is a critical mission for General Mills as they work with partners to address challenges of topsoil loss, biodiversity loss, declining farm profitability, and increasing greenhouse gas emissions in agriculture. General Mills stock jumps after earnings beat and raised outlook

Shares of General Mills jumped 3.5 percent Wednesday after the food company's earnings report showed that cost-cutting initiatives and price hikes have paid off for its profits. "We had a strong third quarter, with positive organic sales growth and significant operating margin expansion," CEO Jeff Harmening said in a statement. The company earned 83 cents per share, on an adjusted basis, during the fiscal third quarter, topping the 69 cents per share expected by analysts surveyed by Refinitiv. General Mills also reported revenue in line with estimates of $4.20 billion. Net income attributed to General Mills dropped to $446.8 million, or 74 cents per share, down 52.5 percent from $941.4 million, or $1.62 per share, a year earlier. The company reported a one-time tax benefit of $504 million due to U.S. tax reform during last year's third quarter. The Minneapolis-based food giant boosted its top and bottom lines by raising prices and switching its products in all of its markets. It otherwise saw sales volume decline in North America, Europe and Australia. A broader cost-cutting plan announced last year, which includes cutting 625 jobs by this spring, also helped profits, it said. With one quarter left in its fiscal 2019, General Mills raised its outlook for earnings growth to a range of flat to up 1 percent. It previously estimated a range of flat to down 3 percent due to accounting changes from its acquisition of pet food company Blue Buffalo. Analysts were expecting the earnings to decline by 1.2 percent. Organic sales grew by 1 percent during the quarter, beating Wall Street estimates of 0.6 percent. Sales for its largest business, North American retail, were flat for the quarter, despite the food company's efforts to entice consumers through marketing and product innovation. The company also narrowed its fiscal 2019 net sales and organic sales growth to the lower end of its previous outlook range. It now expects net sales growth to be closer to 9 percent than 10 percent and organic net sales growth closer to flat than 1 percent.

Glanbia Campile 100 Year Celebrations

An action-packed celebration got underway to mark an eventful 100 years of the Shelburne Co-operative Society which was set up by farmers in the heart of Campile, Co Wexford to serve their community. Over the century it has overcome a WWII bombing with the tragic loss of life of staff, the economic uncertainty of wartime and a massive fire at the start of the harvest season in the ‘50s that nearly spelled disaster. Along with the changing face of the Irish agriculture scene, it moved from once trading in rabbits and poultry to a modern day enterprise with a strong turnover through the innovative actions of its staff and farmers. Siobhán Talbot, Glanbia Group managing director, paid tribute to the work of the current staff and those that had gone before as the vision of the founding farmers in setting up the Co-op in 1919 was marked. “The new book penned by Michael Walsh to celebrate the 100-years of the Shelburne Co-operative charts the ups and downs of the Co-op over the years and it gives a good glimpse into agricultural life in Ireland over the past decades. “It shows the innovation displayed by farmers and Co-op staff members as they overcame adversity and ensured the Co-op blossomed over the years into a strong modern day enterprise.” Among those in attendance at the celebrations were Glanbia Ireland’s Jim Bergin; Glanbia group Chairman Martin Keane; Glanbia board member, Wexford farmer Eamon Power; members of the Wexford Senior Hurling team; farmers and staff members, both past and present. Eamon Power said the centenary marked a momentous occasion for all those in Campile. “When the Co-op opened in 1919 the turnover was £3,000, it shows the innovative and industrious committee that were able to set it on its path to what it is today,” he said. In addition, the ribbon was cut to officially open the refurbished and rebranded Campile Allcare Pharmacy. Allcare Pharmacy is Ireland’s largest Irish-owned pharmacy brand, with pharmacies located in communities across the country. Among those in attendance from the Allcare Pharmacy group were Dermot Ryan, Uniphar Retail Services MD, Siobhán Flynn, Marketing Director and Alan Carroll, Franchise Relationship Manager. There was a party mood as the BEAT Fleet provided the music, while children enjoyed face painting, art competitions and treats such as the popular Avonmore Mooju drinks. An evening BBQ was held, while Wexford strawberries and Avonmore summer cream were among the tasty refreshments. With the GAA season heating up, there were visits from players on the Wexford GAA teams which are sponsored by GAIN Animal Nutrition. It was a chance for the people of Campile to reminisce over the years gone by with the unveiling of a new book on the centenary of the Shelburne Co-operative put together by former employee and local historian Michael Walsh for the occasion. It paints a picture of the difficult era in which the Co-op was set up as it shows determination to give farmers a better price for their produce after the price of grain and livestock had plummeted following the end of World War I. It spurred farmers to band together to create the Co-op in 1919 to service the vast area stretching from the Hook to the White Mountain. However, there were many notable occasions throughout the century as the 1930s saw the Co-op blossom. The rise of the Co-op saw the installation of a seed cleaning plant by a German firm, growth in staff numbers and it became an agent for most of the leading brands of agricultural machinery. During WWII, it faced the same travails as all businesses as the War brought difficulties including a shortage of fertilisers, animal feeds and coal. Yet it was in August 1940 that the reality of the War was really brought home when a German plane dropped four bombs on the Co-op. Tragically, three female members of staff – Kathleen Hurley, Kitty Kent and Mary Ellen Kent – lost their lives. The Co-op went on to overcome a fire at the start of the harvest season in the early 1950s that nearly spelled disaster for it. However, it resulted in the installation of a new clean modern plant. Consumed Ep.122 covers if Glanbia Performance Nutrition benefitted from pent-up global demand. Glanbia plc (LON:GLB) is a global nutrition company that is comprised of two wholly-owned segments; Glanbia Nutritionals and Glanbia Performance Nutrition. For my content, I mainly focus on the latter, which comprises of various nutritional supplement and sports nutrition brands. These brands include names like Optimum Nutrition, BSN, Think!, Isopure, Amazing Grass, and Slim Fast. I'll use the recent earnings report, earnings call, and presentation slides to update you on how the Glanbia Performance Nutrition portfolio is performing against the complex operating environment. Moreover, almost three-fourths of Glanbia Performance Nutrition revenue is now made up of Optimum Nutrition and Slim Fast, and even with increased advertising spend on both brands planned through the entire 2021, I do think these brands have different 5-year trajectories. Outside of increased CAPEX spending, Glanbia will need to utilize it's strengthened balance sheet to be more aggressive with M&A. We've yet to see any deals yet from Glanbia Performance Nutrition side while competitors have been gobbling up prime targets. The “COVID-19 Effect” challenged Glanbia in 2020, the well-timed transformation plan and improving environment around long-term secular trends should make the company stronger for the future.
