A review on how to play the card game Tryce from 3m. Correction: You can only use the jokers to replaces vowels in a word. Otherwise, you can replace any number card. I may end up redoing this video. The game consists of two standard card decks including the jokers from each deck. In addition to the standard numbers and suits the cards also contain a letter of the alphabet. The players are attempting to create "runs", "groups" and "words". A Run is four or more cards in the same suit in sequence. A Group is three or more of a kind. A Word is formed using the letters on the cards and can be any non-proper word found in a standard dictionary. A game consists of seven rounds, and in each round a player must form a specific number of Runs, Groups and Words. Each player is dealt a number of cards, the exact number of which varies depending on the round in play. Each turn the player draws the top card from the deck or from the discard pile then plays as many cards as possible (either by forming new Runs, Groups or Words or by adding them onto cards which have already been played, either by themselves or by other players). Finally, they discard one of their remaining cards. The round ends when one player manages to empty their hand. Players gain points by forming the number of Groups, Runs and Words specified for the round and for the cards in the melds they created. They lose points for cards left in their hand when the round ends. The player with the highest total after all seven rounds is the winner. An interesting variation of Rummy, Tryce adds an element of strategy to that game. Belongs to the 3M Gamette Series. The Cloud Volumes service for Google, launched by NetApp approximately one year ago, has become a simple way for information technology organizations to spin up a cloud-native, no-ops file storage service to run applications and analytics. “It takes about eight seconds to establish a volume in Google Cloud that may take, through trouble tickets and IT and capital purchases, about six months to do,” said Anthony Lye (pictured, right), senior vice president and general manager of cloud at NetApp. “What people want to do in the public cloud is innovate, not administrate.” Lye spoke with Dave Vellante (@dvellante) and Stu Miniman (@stu), co-hosts of theCUBE, SiliconANGLE Media’s mobile livestreaming studio, during the Google Cloud Next event in San Francisco. They were joined by Louis Verzi (pictured, left), senior cloud engineer at Cardinal Health Inc., and they discussed the challenges faced by healthcare organizations in a competitive market and how a collaboration with both NetApp and Google helped move on-premises workloads into the cloud (see the full interview with transcript here). Need for agility and speed Like a number of organizations, Cardinal Health is facing cost pressure while needing to move faster and create agility to better respond to marketplace changes, according to Verzi. Moving to the cloud allowed the organization to address all three challenges. “On-premises didn’t give us the flexibility to turn the levers in any of those three areas,” Verzi explained. “Those three things have really driven our push into the cloud. We’re about 80% of the way there.” Verzi and his IT team at Cardinal Health wanted a one-click solution for developers that would give them a higher tier of storage with no downtime or restarting. NetApp collaborated with both Google and Cardinal Health to move high-performance file workloads into the cloud. “We enabled him to run some pretty heavy on-prem workloads that required Network File System and can now run in production on Google Cloud,” Lye said. “We built it like dial tone. ORLANDO, Florida - In this purpose-driven marketing age, it’s only natural to sell toilet paper without showing or even talking about it. Instead, simply focus on things like grandparents, single moms and step parents. This is the path taken by Georgia-Pacific as part of its overall effort to portray women more accurately, according to CMO Douwe Bergsma. “It translated into how we did our media planning and that we aligned ourselves with partners and publishers and media content that portrayed women accurately and that was more family friendly,” Bergsman explains in an interview with Beet.TV at the annual Masters of Marketing conference of the Association of National Advertisers. As AgencySpy reports, Georgia-Pacific via the Deutsch agency decided to take a different approach not only to selling paper products but metering out emotion at the right times and in the right places. “Angel Soft started off with campaign where we highlighted and celebrated the challenges that single moms have,” Bergsma says. “Another video series for Angel Soft was about the challenges that step parents have with children that do not automatically love you back.” Whereas G-P traditionally had been very functionally driven about promoting products like Dixie accessories, “We switched to recommending and inspiring people to be more here while they are at dinner. Put away their phones and connect with your mom and connect with your daughter,” says Bergsma. The marketer’s media mix still consists in large part of traditional TV and video and has become “a little bit more emotional” in its online content compared with TV, according to Bergsma. “So what you see for Angel Soft on TV is different from what you see for Angel Soft in the social media space,” he says. When it comes to in-store shopper marketing, G-P’s messaging is more functional than on TV for example. “So it’s kind of the closer you get to the point of purchase the more functional we get. The farther away we are from the point of purchase, the more emotional we are,” Bergsma says. We interviewed him at the ANA Masters of Marketing annual meeting in Orlando. Georgia-Pacific, located in the industrial corridor of West Eugene, is responsible for contributing to the ever-increasing rate of toxic exposure to air and water contaminants in West Eugene. The air quality in the Eugene-Springfield area is among the worst in the Pacific Northwest, and direct exposure to these contaminants is compounded for low-income and minority residents of that region. Centro-Latino Americano & Oregon Toxics Alliance has created a detailed report on the disproportionate exposure these communities experience. [ The American Legislative Exchange Council (ALEC) is a front group that permits corporations to control politics through the creation of 'model' bills, pushed through with the assistance of state legislators. Corporations and legislators (primarily Republican) are also members of ALEC, and receive innumerable benefits from this arrangement. ALEC submits over 1,000 of these bills per year, 1 of 5 of which are enacted as law. Through this process, the American public is led to believe that the democratic process prevails, while corporations pass laws that destroy the environment, human rights, and economic stability. Georgia-Pacific, owned by the Koch Brothers, is an ALEC corporation, and uses this membership to influence the legislative process to enable their destruction of the environment and the poisoning of the communities where their factories reside. Koch Industries has operations in 45 states and 60 countries. They are the second largest private company in the United States, and have considerable influence over politics, contributing $5.2 million to state elections since 2003, and over $100 million to right-wing think tanks and advocacy groups since the late 1990s. Cascadia Action Lab believes that it is unacceptable to permit the continued poisoning of our community through unethical pawns known as legislators who manipulate political process to support expansion and profit for the 1%. We chose to utilize radical street theater to model the dangers of carcinogenic, poisoning chemicals by performing a chemical spill skit in front of the Georgia-Pacific facility in West Eugene, 2665 Highway 99 North, Eugene, Oregon. We believe that without direct action, these corporations will continue, with the support and funding of ALEC and other front groups, to poison and devastate our community and our environment. ORLANDO—Packaging for paper products like Sparkle and Brawny have benefitted from the #SeeHer Gender Equality Measure for more than a year. But one thing that Georgia-Pacific didn’t expect when it committed to #SeeHer was the positive impact it’s had on female talent recruitment. In addition to #SeeHer, Georgia-Pacific has its own program to promote gender equality in advertising and media called Strength Has No Gender for its Brawny brand, CMO Douwe Bergsma explains in this interview with Beet.TV at this week’s Masters of Marketing conference of the Association of National Advertisers. “While we were looking at talent through separate efforts, all of a sudden we got a lot of feedback especially from young women that were joining Georgia-Pacific” who had seen the company’s presentations at universities and conferences, “which became a motivator for them to join the company,” says Bergsma. “We heard the same stories from our agencies where some of the top female creatives wanted to work on our business because of the way we embraced #SeeHer. So there was an indirect benefit where we all are challenged with recruiting the best talent that unexpectedly, because of our position and because of our activities, a lot of female talent gravitated to our organization and stayed.” The #SeeHer GEM metric uses consumer surveys to identify best-in-class advertising and programming that supports girls and women. The ANA rolled out #SeeHer in 2016. Georgia-Pacific began by using GEM data to inform its advertising creative and expanded to using it in its packaging. “Our Sparkle packaging is fully developed with the help of GEM scores to identify how our fairy should look like on-pack,” says Bergsma. In addition, the company has used GEM scores “to qualify most of our communication content, especially our TV ads, we make sure that everything has a positive GEM score when relevant.” Another benefit of #SeeHer has been “It’s extremely motivating for our employees and the agencies we work with.” Bergsma believes there’s much more unconscious bias in society than people might think. What is Gypsum Board and how is it made? You may not have heard of it before, but there's a good chance you've been inside a building that uses gypsum board! In 60-seconds, we'll give you an inside look at how gypsum makes it from our facilities to your home! There are two types of gypsum we use to produce our products - natural gypsum and synthetic gypsum. Natural gypsum is made from rocks and was used to build the pyramids! Synthetic gypsum is created by using co-products of industrial processing. These products get turned into powder and then mixed together with our special secret blend of ingredients to create a slurry. This slurry gets sandwiched in between two layers of paper and sent down our conveyor belts to dry out which is how we get the boards. Then we trim the boards before they get labeled, stacked and shipped all over the country.
